Stone Forest Forges Sister-Park Partnerships with Ningde and Shennongjia

On August 10, 2023—a sun-drenched, lotus-scented summer day symbolizing newfound friendships—Yunnan Stone Forest UNESCO Global Geopark welcomed delegations from Fujian Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark, Hubei Shennongjia UNESCO Global Geopark, and Shandong Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark. Representatives convened at the Stone Forest Visitor Center for a symposium hosted by Zhao Xiaomei, Director of the Stone Forest Administration.

In her opening address, Director Zhao outlined the park’s key features while extending a warm welcome. Participants engaged in free-flowing discussions on geo-heritage conservation, science communication, local economic development, and UNESCO reevaluation protocols.

During the event, Stone Forest formalized sister-park agreements with Ningde and Shennongjia, committing to collaborative exchanges and shared access to resources and platforms. These accords strengthen bonds among the parks and unlock future cooperative potential.

Following the talks, delegates explored the iconic Greater and Lesser Stone Forest landscapes, immersing themselves in the awe-inspiring karst formations and vibrant Yi ethnic culture.
