During this year’s Qingming holiday, a farming experience activity themed “Spring Freshness Hunt” quietly went viral in Wenzong Ancient Village, nestled at the foot of Jiuhuashan Global Geopark. As a well-preserved traditional village within the Global Geopark, Wenzong Ancient Village is tucked between granite peak clusters and lush bamboo forests, making it an ideal destination for visitors to temporarily escape the city’s hustle and return to the countryside. They ventured into the terraced tea gardens and verdant bamboo groves, picking the first tender buds of the spring season and digging out freshly sprouted bamboo shoots, immersing themselves in the vibrant and burgeoning atmosphere of spring amidst green mountains and clear waters.
In the tea garden, rows of tea bushes rose and fell with the contours of the hills, the tender yellow buds glistening in the morning dew. Visitors, with bamboo baskets tied around their waists, learned to gently pinch off “one bud with one leaf” just like the tea farmers. Children, encouraged by their parents, stood on tiptoe and carefully searched for the freshest buds. Deep in the bamboo forest, the moist earth exuded a unique fragrance. Parents and children picked up small hoes and, under the patient guidance of local villagers, observed cracks on the ground, determined the direction of bamboo rhizomes, and then pried firmly along the direction of the shoot’s growth. A spring shoot wrapped in reddish-brown husks emerged from the soil, still carrying the fragrance of earth. Many parents remarked that this hands-on experience was far more vivid than pictures in a book — their children not only learned about the growth habits of spring tea and bamboo shoots but also came to appreciate the meaning of “every grain comes from hard toil” as they bent down and dug. The mountain breeze rustled the bamboo leaves, and laughter echoed from the tea gardens from time to time. Families slowed down in the embrace of nature, enjoying the simple and solid joys of the countryside.
Besides working in the fields, visitors could also step into the traditional tea workshops in the ancient village. Under the guidance of master tea roasters, they experienced the entire process of “fixing, rolling, and drying” tea leaves. In front of a hot iron pan, the tender green tea leaves danced between their palms, and the crisp, clean aroma of tea gradually filled the air, eventually transforming into a bright, clear cup of tea. From branch to tongue, the complete journey of a cup of spring tea allowed participants to deeply appreciate the craftsmanship and warmth of traditional tea culture, adding a vivid footnote to the regional humanity of Jiuhuashan Global Geopark.
According to a relevant manager of a scenic area hotel, Wenzong Ancient Village, leveraging the high-quality ecological foundation and farming culture resources of the Global Geopark, launched immersive farming experience activities such as tea picking and bamboo shoot digging, which were highly popular during the Qingming holiday, attracting a steady stream of visitors. This “rural craze” has not only revitalized the ancient village but also directly boosted local tourism consumption — the occupancy rate and catering revenue of the hotel within the ancient village both saw significant year-on-year growth, fully demonstrating the new vitality brought by the integrated development of “Global Geopark + rural cultural tourism”.
