To thoroughly study and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Ecological Civilization, practice the sustainable development concept of “Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”, and celebrate the 57th World Earth Day, the 2026 “Friendly Sister Geoparks Alliance” & Main Venue Event of the 7th Asia-Pacific UNESCO Global Geopark Week was successfully held at Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark on April 18. Under the theme of “Cherish Natural Resources, protect Beautiful China”, the event gathered representatives, experts, scholars, partners and guests from various UNESCO Global Geoparks at home and abroad, composing a movement of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.
The event was hosted by Environment and Resources Protection Section(Geopark Office), Administrative Committee of Jiuhuashan Global Geopark and Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark Administrative Center, supported by UNESCO Global Geoparks Network, Asia-Pacific Geoparks Network and National Geoparks Network Center, organized by Qizhi Culture Communication Co., Ltd., Jiuhuashan Scenic Area, Chizhou City, and co-organized by 40 Chinese UNESCO Global Geoparks, Jeonbuk West Coast UNESCO Global Geopark, Republic of Korea, Danyang UNESCO Global Geopark, Republic of Korea and other partners.
Grand Launch Ceremony: A New Chapter for Sister Geoparks
At 9:00 a.m. on April 18, the launch ceremony of 2026 the 57th World Earth Day “Friendly Sister Geoparks Alliance” & the 7th Asia-Pacific UNESCO Global Geopark Week was solemnly held at Jiuhuashan Tourist Service Center. Distinguished guests from home and abroad, citizens and tourists gathered to witness this moment.
After the host’s opening speech, leaders of Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark delivered a welcome address. Then, representatives from Huangshan , Taining , Longhushan , Alxa Desert , Ningde , Huanggang Dabieshan , Linyi Yimengshan , Changbaishan and Wugongshan stepped onto the stage together with leaders of Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark to solemnly read the Joint Declaration on Friendly Sister UNESCO Global Geopark Alliance, affirming their commitment to promoting geological heritage protection, science popularization communication and regional collaborative development.
Amid warm applause, Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark signed sister Geopark cooperation agreements with Huanggang Dabieshan UNESCO Global Geopark and Ningde UNESCO Global Geopark respectively, marking a long-term, stable and in-depth cooperative partnership.
The ceremony also held the award ceremony for the “4·22 World Earth Day” themed works collection. Outstanding student winners from Jiuhuashan Scenic Area Central School received awards on stage. All guests took a group photo to mark the occasion.
Four-theme Photography Joint Exhibition Capturing Natural and Cultural Splendor
A photography joint exhibition was staged with four sections:
· Chinese UNESCO Global Geopark Sister Geoparks Exhibition
· Korean UNESCO Global Geoparks Exhibition
· Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark Landscape Photography Exhibition
· Award-winning Student Works Exhibition of Central School
It fully presented the magnificent landscapes and science popularization achievements of geoparks worldwide.
Vibrant Natural Life Market Ecological Concepts Take Root
As a highlight, the Jiuhuashan Global Geopark Partner Natural Life Market opened at the Tourist Service Center. Local merchants and partners including Shenlong Valley Scenic Area, Jiuziyan Scenic Area, Lianfeng Yunhai Scenic Area, Liubu Tea House, Qingxing Cultural and Creative, Shanben Handicraft, Laotian Intangible Cultural Heritage Rubbing, Fulu Handicraft Workshop and September Chrysanthemum Paper-cutting participated, displaying intangible cultural heritage handicrafts, featured agricultural products and eco-cultural creations, showing the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature in Jiuhuashan.
Joint Efforts to Promote World Earth Day Publicity
This event served as a key public outreach activity for the 57th World Earth Day and an important rehearsal for Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark’s re-evaluation. Through exhibitions, markets, signing ceremonies and award events, it enhanced public awareness and participation in natural resource protection and expanded the social influence of UNESCO Global Geoparks.
