From April 20 to 26, China's first National Reading Week arrived as scheduled. To further promote nationwide reading, enrich reading activities, preserve and pass down local intangible cultural heritage and excellent traditional Chinese culture, and create a strong "Scholarly Jiuhua" atmosphere, Jiuhuashan Global Geopark, in conjunction with the "Grand Beauty of Jiuhua: A Cultural Journey" night tour of intangible cultural heritage performances, presented the audience with an audio-visual feast that combined cultural warmth and contemporary spirit.
The event featured a rotating lineup of performances, including the lion dance Golden Lion Brings Auspiciousness, the song As You Wish, the recitation Ode to a Prosperous China, the Jiuhua folk song Mountain Songs in the Wind, Fragrance of Min Tea, the suona solo Snow Lantern Celebration on the Lantern Festival, and the Huangmei opera Jiuhua Mountain: Changing Old Customs. These performances immersed the audience in the cultural charm where tradition and modernity intertwine.
The classic song When and the folk song Little White Poplar evoked a collective resonance, while the dance Only This Green showcased the essence of Eastern aesthetics. The intangible cultural heritage fire pot performance Peace and Prosperity for the Nation conveyed wishes for national well-being through its unique artistry, bringing the show to a successful close.
The public exhibition at the event also drew crowds who paused to read or engaged in quiet discussions. Centered on the theme of a brief history of book evolution, the exhibition systematically traced the development of books from bamboo slips and silk manuscripts to modern publications, vividly telling the thousand-year story of how books carry civilization and transmit wisdom. It allowed the audience to appreciate the transformation of books while experiencing the charm of reading up close, further igniting their enthusiasm for reading.
This event integrated reading with intangible cultural heritage and night tours, breaking the spatial limits of traditional reading. It brought the fragrance of books into the scenic area's nighttime bustle, allowing more people to engage with reading and culture while sightseeing, and injected fresh vitality into the nationwide reading movement.
