China is one of the founding countries of the Global Geoparks Initiative, a major promoter of the International Geoscience and Geoparks Program, and has the largest number of member countries in the Global Geoparks Network. As of April 2025, China had 49 Global Geoparks, distributed across 24 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, as well as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
