Mountain Scenery of the Five Creeks (Wuxi)。
Wuxi serve as the northern gateway to Jiuhuashan. Clear streams flow endlessly, with bridges spanning east and west. Standing on Wuxi Bridge and gazing afar at Jiuhuashan, one beholds layered emerald peaks shrouded in mist and clouds. Nearby, the green waters reflect the mountain silhouettes, creating an exquisitely serene landscape that leaves visitors utterly captivated.
Sunrise at Tiantai Peak
Tiantai Peak, at an elevation of 1,306 meters, is the second-highest major peak of Jiuhuashan. There are two prime vantage points for viewing the sunrise from the summit: the Sun-Holding Pavilion and the Cloud Gorge. Visitors typically spend the night at Tiantai Temple or the Sutra-Worshipping Terrace. Before dawn, they make their way to these spots. As the morning stars linger and a pale light gradually brightens along the eastern horizon, a golden glow suddenly surges forth. The clouds in the sky burst into a riot of colors, and a crimson sun rises slowly, casting radiant rays in all directions with magnificent splendor and breathtaking momentum.
Bitao Waterfall
Bitao Waterfall is located northwest of Dagu Ridge, above the Futao Ravine. Its waters originate from Taohua Valley and plunge dramatically over Bitao Rock. The cascading waterfall is grand and lengthy, with a vertical drop of over 200 meters and a width of approximately 3 to 5 meters.
Moon Reflection in Shu Pool
Beneath Cuigai Peak, a single spring feeds three crystal-clear pools known as Shugu Pool. The water is exceptionally transparent and lustrous, surrounded by ancient trees that evoke the enchanting atmosphere of a fairyland. On serene, cloudless nights, the bright moon casts its reflection upon the water, illuminating all three pools with silvery radiance. The layered peaks and their mirrored images create a scene of poetic beauty and painterly perfection.
Sound of Springs at Jiziyan
Located in the Jiziyan Scenic Area of Zhubei Town, Qingyang County, this site features the Qibu (Seven-Step) Waterfall, which boasts a vertical drop of approximately 80 meters. Originating from mountain springs from the Jiziyan Basin, the powerful torrent plunges down the cliffs and crashes against the rocks, winding through seven distinct bends. From a distance, it looks like seven ribbons of white silk dancing in mid-air. This natural spectacle, where the winding waters harmonize with the landscape of the Jiziyan Basin, is famously known as the "Sound of Springs at Jiziyan."
Sea of Clouds at Lotus Peak
Situated at the northeastern foot of Jiuhuashan, the Upper, Middle, and Lower Lotus Peaks rise majestically in succession. These peaks are characterized by steep, jagged rocks of a bluish-purple color, shaped remarkably like lotus blossoms. Whenever a "sea of clouds" rolls in, one can look up to see these "fresh lotuses" floating gracefully atop the misty waves, their petals appearing to unfurl slightly. It is a vivid and breathtaking sight that never fails to inspire wonder.
Accumulated Snow on Ridge
Located at Pintiangang on the southern foot of Furong Peak near Jiuhua Street, this area becomes a winter wonderland during the coldest months. When the snow falls, it can accumulate on the ridge to a depth of up to one meter. Viewing the scenery here reveals a world clad in silvery white—where the peaks and the wilderness are blanketed in white, creating a myriad of enchanting and graceful silhouettes.
Meditation at the Eastern Cliff
Dongyan (Eastern Cliff) is situated on the cliff summit north of Huixiang Pavilion and east of the Bell Pavilion. At the top of the eastern peak stands a massive granite outcrop, approximately 10 meters high, over 20 meters long, and more than 10 meters wide, resembling an ancient boat. Legend has it that when the Buddhist monk Kim Gyo-gak (the manifestation of Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva) first arrived at Jiuhuashan, he practiced Zen meditation on this very rock. Centuries later, the renowned philosopher Wang Yangming followed in the Bodhisattva’s footsteps, leading his disciples here to study Buddhism and practice quiet meditation all day long while contemplating the mountains and listening to the springs. Thus, the tradition of “Meditation at the Eastern Cliff” was born.
Immortal Traces of Tianzhu Peak
This refers to the majestic scenery around Tianzhu Peak. Tianzhu Peak rises majestically in the Qingqiaowan area northeast of Dagu Peak. Soaring thousands of feet into the sky, it stands like a giant pillar leaning against heaven. Among the surrounding mountain ranges, it stands solitary and upright, piercing the sky like a halberd thrust toward the heavens.
Evening Bell of Huacheng Temple
Situated in the heart of Jiuhua Street, Huacheng Temple is the founding temple of Jiuhuashan. It is embraced by four mountains—Furong Peak to the south, the Eastern Cliff to the east, Shenguang Ridge to the west, and Baiyun Mountain to the north—which surround it like the walls of a city. The temple is built along the mountain slope and consists of four successive courtyards. It houses a magnificent 1,000-kilogram bronze bell, standing 2 meters tall and cast during the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty. Known for its exquisite craftsmanship and resonant, melodious tone, the bell tolls as the sun sets. Its sound vibrates through the valleys and echoes long after the strike. As the tolling begins, monks and nuns throughout the mountain’s temples start their evening chants, filling the air with the profound and serene atmosphere of the “Land of Buddha.”
