Earth Day falls on April 22 every year. The theme for Earth Day 2021 is “Cherish the earth, human and nature coexist harmoniously”. During the 52nd World Earth Day Promotion Week, Jiuhuashan UGGp, together with other global geoparks of Anhui Province, namely Huangshan UGGp and Tianzhushan UGGp, carried out a series of popular science activities.
On April 24, Huangshan UGGp, Tianzhushan UGGp, Jiuhuashan UGGp and Anhui Paleontology and Geoheritage Society gave a joint popular science lecture activity at the Anhui Geological Museum, attracting more than 100 children to participate. This activity invited Wu Weiping, a senior engineer at the Institute of Geological Survey, and Miao Peng, deputy director of the Huangshan Geological Museum, respectively discussed the difference of granite landforms of the three global geoparks of Anhui and the rare wild animals and plants in the geopark. After the lecture, there were questions and a lottery session. The children present were full of interest and the atmosphere was lively, and they asked experts questions, and the experts answered and explained to them one by one.
Popular Science Lectures
From April 24th to May 23rd, the three global geoparks and the Anhui Paleontology and Geoheritage Society held a photography exhibition at the Anhui Geological Museum. About 45 photos were displayed in this exhibition, and showed the beautiful scenery of Jiuhuashan Huangshan and Tianzhushan, raising awareness of respecting nature, conforming to nature and protecting nature, encouraging the public to actively practice green behavior of protecting the earth and conserving resources.
