On January 27, the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum was full of joy. A brown fossil with an eggshell thickness of about 1mm and a long diameter of 11cm was particularly eye-catching under the light. This was a dinosaur egg donation meeting on site, and this was the first dinosaur egg discovered in Qianshan City.
According to the donor Kong Jiebin, the egg fossil was unintentionally dug up during the construction of the 105 National Road reconstruction project in Baoling Village, Huangpu Town in 2018. At that time, Mr. Kong thought it was jade and collected it. Afterwards, experts confirmed it was a dinosaur egg. So they went to Tianzhushan Geopark and asked for a donation.
Except this complete egg fossil, there is also a half dinosaur egg donated by Mr. Lu Jiepeng, a villager in Wanghe Town. Now, after the handover ceremony, this one and a half dinosaur egg will be handed over to the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum for collection. Prof. Wu Weiping from Anhui Geological Survey witnessed this important moment and said with great emotion: "This is the first dinosaur egg fossil discovered in the Qianshan Basin, which provides important information on the study of the middle and late Mesozoic biological and environmental evolution history in the Qianshan Basin. The fossil evidence provided by the study provides a direct basis of regional biostratigraphic correlation and is of great significance of enriching the Tianzhushan Global Geopark geological heritage."
