On August 27 at the 37th International Geological Congress in Busan, South Korea, the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) unveiled its Second 100 Global Geological Heritage Sites. Zigong UNESCO Global Geopark’s Dashanpu Middle Jurassic Dinosaur Fossil Assemblage Site was among three Chinese landmarks honored, representing China’s exceptional geoheritage recognized worldwide.

The IUGS Global Geoparks Heritage initiative (IGCP-731), launched globally in 2022, identifies geological sites of outstanding international scientific significance. Inclusion signifies supreme geoscientific value, exemplary research standards, and effective conservation—establishing these sites as global benchmarks for geoheritage study and preservation.

This designation acknowledges not only Dashanpu’s unparalleled dinosaur fossil resources but also Zigong’s trifecta of excellence in paleontological research, natural heritage protection, and science popularization.

At the congress, Zigong delegates delivered a featured presentation titled "Dashanpu Middle Jurassic Dinosaur Fossil Site: A World Wonder of Concentrated Dinosaur Fossils", showcasing the site’s scientific and cultural significance to the global geological community.
