Building upon their 2015 sister-park partnership, Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark recently conducted an inspection tour at Huangshan UNESCO Global Geopark to strengthen inter-park collaboration and advance synergistic approaches to geoheritage conservation and geotourism development.
The Alxa delegation explored Huangshan’s iconic granite peak forests, ancient pines, and rock formations while engaging in in-depth discussions with local administrators on geoheritage protection, ecological maintenance, tourism infrastructure, and community engagement. Both parties acknowledged their contrasting landscapes—Alxa’s desert wonders versus Huangshan’s mountainous splendors—yet identified substantial mutual learning opportunities in scientific conservation methodologies and sustainable tourism practices.
During the exchange, the geoparks shared successes and challenges in park planning, science education outreach, and community involvement. Alxa highlighted its vast desert ecosystems and paleontological heritage, while Huangshan showcased its expertise in mountain tourism development and cultural preservation. This cross-regional dialogue aims to foster innovative collaboration models that elevate both geoparks’ global recognition.
The visit deepened mutual understanding and laid foundations for future joint initiatives, paving the way for pioneering cooperation in geo-resource conservation and nature-based tourism.
