Jiuhuashan is located in mid-latitude subtropical regions of mild climate and abundant rainfalls, and is good for animals and plants. The annual average rainfall is 2094 mm. The plant vegetation coverage of Jiuhuashan Global Geopark reaches up to 78.2% because of closing mountains for afforestation and prohibiting cut trees since 1980. Now, 175 families, 727 genera and 1528 species of higher plants have been identified, such as Ormosia hosiei, Liriodendron chinense, Ginkgo biloba, Emmenopterys henryi and so on. 449 ancient and famous trees over 100 years old have signboards for the Public. 80% of 139.7 km2 area in Jiuhuashan Global Geopark is inaccessible due to high mountains and dense forests. More than 253 species of animals live here, some of them being famous such as Macaca mulatta, Lophura nycthemera, Chrysolophus, and are listed as the first-class national protected animals like Cervus nippon, Muntiacus crinifrons, Syrmaticus ellioti, Neofelis nebulosa, and so on. The excellent ecological environment is good and prolific for local crops like Jiuhua Buddha tea, sealwort, Umbilicaria esculenta Miyoshi, bamboo shoots, lily bulbs, which local people live on.
