UNESCO Global Geopark, together with two other UNEscO programmes, Biosphere Reserve and WorldHeritage Site, form an organic whole that respects heritage, protecting the world's cultural, biological andgeological diversity, while promoting economic growth sustainable development. Biosphere Reserve paysmore attention to the coordinated management of biological and cultural diversity, and World Heritage Siteaims to promote the protection of natural and cultural sites of outstanding universal value. UNESCO GlobaGeopark promotes awareness of the importance of conserving geological diversity through the internationalrecognition of important geoheritage and through the active participation of local communities. lf a Geoparkcontains a World Heritage Site or a Biosphere Reserve and intends to apply to become a UNEscO GlobalGeopark, then the Geopark must provide clear reasons and evidence to demonstrate that both areindependently identified and developed in concert, In such cases, UNEscO Global Geopark status cangenerate added value.
