Jiuhuashan Global Geopark Hosts International Geodiversity Day Event — Explore  Global Geoparks and Discover the Beauty of Geodiversity

October 6 marks the fourth International Geodiversity Day. To better fulfill the science outreach function of  Global Geoparks and enhance public understanding of geodiversity and its significance to life on Earth, Jiuhuashan Global Geopark, in collaboration with Huangshan, Tianzhu Mountain, and Huanggang Dabieshan  Global Geopark, launched a themed outreach event titled “Explore  Global Geoparks and Discover the Beauty of Geodiversity in Jiuhuashan.”The event was officially opened at Jiuhuashan Global Geopark, attracting numerous local residents, volunteers, and nature enthusiasts.

       During the event, Dr. Meng Yao guided participants through Jiuhuashan Global Geopark and Laotian Village in Jiuhua Township, exploring the current state of conservation of local cultural traditions and geological heritage.At the site, Dr. Meng explained in an engaging and accessible way how geodiversity gives rise to unique ecosystems and cultural landscapes, helping participants appreciate the idea of the “cultural roots beneath geology” and gain a deeper understanding of the close relationship between the geological environment and human life.

Meanwhile, at the “Lingxiu Jiuhua Night” event of the 2025 FIA Eco Rally Cup (China), Jiuhuashan Global Geopark organized volunteers to carry out science outreach activities.Through banners, on-site consultation, and the distribution of brochures, albums, reading materials, and cultural creative products, participants and competitors were introduced to the geological heritage, ecological vegetation, and geoscience knowledge of Jiuhuashan.

The event drew an enthusiastic response, with many participants stopping to engage and ask questions. Volunteers provided clear and patient explanations, covering topics from geohazard prevention to ecological conservation, helping raise awareness of the Earth’s fragility and value while inspiring the public to explore and protect the natural world.

Jiuhuashan Global Geopark will continue to roll out a series of events for International Geodiversity Day, including themed study programs such as “Youth into Forests” and nationwide initiatives like “Science Outreach on Campus.”Leveraging the platform of a  Global Geopark, Jiuhuashan will further strengthen science outreach and public engagement, promoting the integration of geological heritage conservation with greater public awareness, and showcasing the unique geological and cultural richness of Jiuhuashan to a wider audience.
