“I never imagined I could pursue my entrepreneurial dream in a thousand-year-old village—it’s truly inspiring.” On January 18, at the Jiuyin Shanfang Intangible Cultural Heritage Workshop in Laotian Village, Jiuhua Township, Jiuhuashan Global Geopark, Xu Yilian—a postgraduate in pharmacy from Zhejiang University of Technology—was learning to craft herbal balms, preparing for her upcoming business venture. In 2025 alone, more than 100 young entrepreneurs like her chose to settle in Jiuhuashan, becoming a vital force in upgrading the local cultural and tourism industry.
Throughout 2025, Jiuhuashan Global Geopark continued to strengthen its talent-driven development strategy. A series of six “Campus Talent Recruitment Tours” attracted 113 university graduates to work and start businesses in the area. Meanwhile, the geopark established both a Jiuhuashan Student Talent Database and a Directory of Distinguished Professionals, registering 98 high-quality talents and forming a well-structured and diverse talent reserve.
To cultivate and effectively utilize talent, the geopark has focused on building strong development platforms. Through initiatives such as the “Feyechao Studio” mentorship program, experienced professionals guide emerging talent, complemented by specialized lectures and training sessions that have benefited over 400 participants. Fifteen promising candidates have been identified and trained as future leaders in the cultural and tourism sector.
In collaboration with leading institutions such as East China University of Science and Technology and Hefei University of Technology, Jiuhuashan Global Geopark has also established a university student entrepreneurship incubation center in Laotian Ancient Village. In addition, 15 practice-based platforms and innovation groups—including intangible cultural heritage clubs and international student study communities—have been created, fostering a deep integration of cultural preservation and entrepreneurial innovation.
Equally important, the geopark continues to improve its support services. By refining expert liaison systems and hosting forums such as the “Talent Gathering in a Land of Spirit—Smart Development for Jiuhuashan” symposium, it has strengthened engagement with professionals. Policy implementation has also been streamlined, with RMB 316,000 in talent subsidies distributed promptly—enhancing both a sense of belonging and confidence among those choosing to build their future in Jiuhuashan.
