“Volunteer Red” Shines Across Jiuhuashan Global Geopark

During the Spring Festival holiday, amid the bustling crowds and steady flow of vehicles in Jiuhuashan Global Geopark, flashes of vibrant “volunteer red” stood out in every corner. These dedicated volunteers provided attentive and professional support, helping visitors navigate challenges with ease. Through their service, they brought a sense of warmth and civility to the holiday, making every journey more welcoming.

As the first stop for most visitors, the Tourist Service Center bore the brunt of peak crowds and served as the main hub for volunteer activities. By around 7:00 a.m., the square outside the Jiuhuashan Tourist Service Center was already filled with people. Volunteers arrived on time, put on their red vests, picked up signage and loudspeakers, and threw themselves into service with energy and enthusiasm.

“Happy New Year! We are currently at peak hours for uphill travel. Please follow police instructions and queue in order. Thank you for your cooperation!”

“Tickets for the geopark and shuttle buses can be purchased in advance via the WeChat mini program to save time queuing on-site.”

“In addition to the Tourist Service Center, visitors heading uphill may also transfer at the Nanzhuang ticket office.”

These clear and timely reminders helped newly arrived visitors quickly find their way. Meanwhile, multiple volunteer service stations offered free hot water, basic medical supplies, and guide maps—meeting visitors’ needs in a thoughtful, all-round manner.

To ensure high-quality service, volunteers underwent thorough preparation. “Before officially starting work on the 28th day of the lunar calendar, we received training in visitor reception, first aid, and more—so we could better respond to different needs,” said volunteer Zhang Tingting. Regular service hours run from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., but during peak periods, volunteers often arrive earlier and stay later.

“Every time we help someone, they sincerely say ‘thank you.’ We don’t expect anything in return, but that recognition motivates us and makes this work feel truly meaningful,” Zhang shared, echoing the sentiments of her fellow volunteers.

At transfer stations and key traffic points, volunteers worked alongside traffic police and geopark staff to guide vehicles, manage parking, and facilitate smooth transfers. Through measures such as traffic diversion and phased release, they helped maintain efficient and safe access into the geopark. Around popular attractions, volunteers also acted as ambassadors of civility, encouraging visitors to protect the environment and public facilities while helping maintain order.

Their warm and dedicated service has earned widespread praise. A visitor from Hangzhou, Weng Xiaoting, remarked: “It’s my first time here, but with volunteers guiding us all the way and offering such thoughtful help, I feel completely at ease.”
