From April 26th to 28th, Jiuhuashan UGGp was invited to attend the opening ceremony of Yimengshan UGGp & the Symposium on the Construction and Development of UNESCO Global Geoparks. Wang Tao, researcher of Administrative Committee of Jiuhuashan Scenic Area, Wu Xiaogang, the director of Jiuhuashan Branch of Chizhou Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, and Zhang Yinhu, deputy director of Jiuhuashan UNESCO Global Geopark Management Office took part in the symposium.
On April 26th, the opening ceremony of Yimengshan UGGp was successfully held. In the afternoon, the attendees visited Yimengshan UNESCO Geopark museum and the natural museum of Pingyi County. On April 27th, attendees toot part in the Symposium on the Construction and Development of UNESCO Global Geoparks. After the symposium, Jiuhuashan UGGp signed the sistership geopark agreement with Yimengshan UGGp. Next, the two geoparks will expand communication and cooperation, share resources and promote the scientific management and sustainable development of protected areas.
Yimengshan and Jiuhuashan were inscribed as a UNESCO Global Geopark in the same year in 2019. The Yimengshan UNESCO Global Geopark is located on the uplift belt on the eastern coast of China, near Jinan City, the capital of Shandong Province. With an area of 1,804 km2.Yimengshan UGGp is composed of Mengshan subarea, Diamond subarea, Daigu subarea, Menglianggu subarea and Yunmeng lake subarea. There are 44 geosites distributed within the Geopark. The earliest primary diamond mine was located in the Geopark. The Geopark was the place where Daigu landform was named, with clustered, castle-shaped land formations protruding from the horizon.
